Day 333

Ok, I promise this is the last of my cherry blossom photos for a little while...

It was one of those March days when the sun shines hot and the wind blows cold: when it is summer in the light, and winter in the shade. ~Charles Dickens

I can't resist taking photos of them. They're so pretty and they're only here for such a short time! The sun came out for a little while today and it was glorious.

Day 331

Thousand Origami Cranes (千羽鶴 Senbazuru?) is a group of one thousand origami paper cranes held together by strings. An ancient Japanese legend promises that anyone who folds a thousand origami cranes will be granted a wish by a crane, such as long life or recovery from illness or injury. The crane in Japan is one of the mystical or holy creatures and is said to live for a thousand years. In Japan, it is commonly said that folding 1000 paper origami cranes makes a person's wish come true. ~Wikipedia

Over the last few days in the photographic community, there have been hundreds of pictures of cranes uploaded. Why? Sharing messages of hope and perseverance for Japan during their times of struggle after the horrible earthquake that hit two weeks ago.

I would have no clue about this if it weren't for Madeline Bea over at The Sunday Creative so thanks to her for this week's theme and for directing us all to it.

I encourage all my readers to make their own paper cranes and submit images of them to Miya Company. They are donating  $5 for each of the first 1000 crane images they receive to the Save the Children for Japan’s relief and recovery. A kind gesture for sure, I wish more companies would do something like this in times of crisis. I had never before done origami, and it was sort of frustrating during my first try, but hey, I made it work with THICK scrapbook paper. My cranes may look like loch ness monsters, but I don't think they're half bad for a first attempt.

Also, there is a facebook group that is trying to raise $200,000 by mailing paper cranes to "Students Rebuild" So once you've used your cranes for photographs and uploaded them, you can mail them off! More info here: Do Something: Students Rebuild Japan

Get better soon, Japan.

Day 329

Rain, sun, rain, sun, hail, rain, sun, rain...

That's been the cycle of weather the last couple of days. And it's cold. Too cold for spring. I don't need it to be especially warm, just wamer. Please?

Day 321

Book Club Meeting #9! I can't believe we've already read 9 books!

This month it was my turn to host. I love making and eating breakfast food, so I made the girls french toast, bacon, veggie sausages, and some fruit. It was delicious, if I do say so myself!

I don't like syrup, really, so I put powdered sugar on my french toast :)

We read The Art of Racing In the Rain which was a pretty decent book. It was overwhelmingly sad for the most part, but it was actually one of those books that redeemed itself in the last 30 pages or so. For that, I'm glad I kept reading.

Natalie making friends with Boone!

Jeff, you need to get your wife a dog. Maybe a labrador? Yes :)

Day 314

Can you guess where I spent the majority of the afternoon today?
I used this photo over at The Sunday Creative (even though it's Saturday) as an entry for "Old Soul" Duke was the name of this pooch, and he was quite the character. While he has a lot of grey hairs, he was super playful and such a sweetheart.

Day 313

One of my coworkers had her birthday party at a local ceramics shop. One of those places where you pick an already bisqued piece and then you paint it. It was SO much fun! We were asked to bring some appetisers, so I threw together a cheese plate. Mmmmm, little crostini's with blue, cheddar, and brie!

I've always wanted to start a teapot collection, so, after much debate, I decided I would start my collection by painting my own :)

Before:

After:
Now, it hasn't been fired yet, and I don't get the piece back until Friday of next week, but I'm super excited with how it turned out so far. When I have my own home, I'm going to decorate it with a vineyard theme, so, I figured I should paint my teapot that way :) Can't wait to show you all the final results!

Day 312

Flowers? Already? YAY!

Wednesday, March 9, 2011

Day 311

The strawberries are finally tasting good again! A little bit of my home made frosting helped ;)

Day 310

So, even though I haven't gotten the "all clear" from the vet, it was simply too beautiful, and Boone simply way too bored, to keep him in the house any longer.

He's been restricted from running, playing, and having fun since the end of December. He's walking fine and seems to be healed after his surgery, so, we went to the dog park today.

I love taking pictures of dogs. There were so many characters at the park today!
This corgi was named Leia, because of her pointy ears.
Boone was super slimey, but he was having fun!

Day 308

A very interesting antique ring Sam showed us tonight at dinner! She made us delicious pizza from SCRATCH and grilled it! I should have taken pictures of the food, but I was too busy enjoying it!

Day 307

Asian Food Markets have some weird stuff in them...
