Day 298

Welp, it snowed!
My favorite little red barn :)

Well, it took a few months of winter, but I finally got my seasonal Mini photo :)

Day 295

Organic, local milk in a GLASS jug! I didn't even know milk came in containers like that anymore! The milk tastes... thick. I bought 2% even though I usually drink 1%, so I don't know if it's just the fat content or because it's some magical milk from local magical cows. Anyway.

Well, I had to take a picture of SOMETHING today.

Isn't this an exciting blog post? Milk! Hahahaha.

Did you know that if you don't recycle glass it can take over a MILLION years to decompose? I plan to reuse this bottle as a vase for flowers so it doesn't go to waste.

Day 294

I saw this on Katie's blog Love is Everywhere on Friday, and I really wanted to participate, too! I originally wanted to do this in calligraphy, but I figured it might be too hard to read, with not much reward for that much work. I do miss doing calligraphy though, I don't find many opportunities to actually do it. Anyway, moving along...

The idea is that we type out everything every day, that we've lost the beauty and artfulness in hand writing. There are 8 questions that you must write, by hand, and post on your blog.

1. What's your name / blogger name?
2. What's your blog's URL?
3. Write: The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.

This wasn't a part of the Meme, it's the back cover of the journal I was writing in. I'm trying to decide if he looks scary, or just intimidating. I rather like him though.

4. Favorite Quote?
This was a difficult one for me to chose, as I LOVE quotes and have many favorites. I went with my favorite quote of the moment, which is from a Mumford and Sons song.

5. Favorite Song?
6. Favorite Band/Singer?
7. Anything else you want to say?

8. Tag 3 People:
Yeah, unfortunately I'm not prevalent enough in the blogging community to know 3 bloggers who would participate in this meme, so hey, if you saw this here and you want to do it... DO IT! Just link back to me so I can see your photos and your answers. This really was a fun meme!

Front cover of the journal :) Happy Sunday!!!

Day 293

Book club meeting #8! This month we read "A Northern Light" by Jennifer Donnelly. A sad little book. I had to force myself to finish it. It wasn't bad, and I didn't really dislike it, I just don't think it was my type of story.
Carolyn hosted this month and she made us yummy muffins, biscotti and fruit! Thanks Carolyn!

These were taken before I went to book club. It's been quite cold here! But still, no snow that sticks :(

Later that night, Natalie and Sam and I went to see The King's Speech. I kinda crashed their movie night . I had been dying to see that movie and when they mentioned they were going, I asked if I could tag along. Thanks for letting me come, girls!

The movie was SO good!!! It actually had some comical parts, and was an interesting historical story! Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush were great! Colin Firth had damn well better win Best Actor next week. I can't imagine how difficult it was to play that role.

After the movie, the three of us went to Barnes and Nobel, so the girls could pick up our next book for book club.

Favorite moment of the day: Natalie, Sam and I were in Barnes and Nobel after the movie, browsing for books. Natalie kept picking up ridiculous book titles (mostly absurd political books) and suggesting we read them for our book next month.  I was across the aisle, looking at some of the bargain books, when Natalie says "How about this one?" as she holds up "No Apology" by Mitt Romney with a smirk on her face. I shouted "NO!" with such enthusiasm, that a random woman passing by commented "I agree. Very much so!"

Hysterical. :)

Day 292

You know how I mentioned I wasn't feeling good on Wednesday? Well the feeling just kept getting worse over the course of the week, and I woke up this morning and just felt horrid.

I woke up to my alarm and immediately knew I needed to take the day off and rest. My entire upper body was stiff, achy, and painful and I just felt lethargic and gross. I stayed awake long enough for my office to open, then I called in sick and immediately went to back bed. I ended up sleeping for 14 hours! I do not do that!! EVER! But, I guess I needed it. And Boone even let me sleep that long, which is weird, because he is very much on a schedule.

When I eventually got up, I made myself a healthy smoothie with lots of vitamins and fruits, and called it a day. I don't know exactly what this was. My eyes were itchy, my face was congested, and I just felt lethargic all day. It wasn't a typical cold or flu.

I went to bed at 8pm! Yes, 8pm on a Friday night. I think I was only awake like 9 hours the whole day. I want to feel lazy, but I just didn't feel good! Hopefully the extra rest put me ahead and I'll be feeling better soon.

Day 291

The first flowers of the year! Apparently this is a winter blooming flower. I'm surpirsed that after the snowstorm yesterday that they looked so pretty and happy today.

Day 290

It snowed!!!
The snowflakes were HUGE. Seriously, one fell ON my iphone and it was almost as large as my screen. So fluffy and wonderful!

It didn't stick for very long :( I would say by noon it had all melted away! So sad!

I woke up this morning feeling kind of run down. I might be catching a cold. Despite that, I pulled myself out of bed, went to work, and also went to the gym even though I really didn't want to. I didn't feel better after going, however, as I heading to my car, I saw a tall, rather good looking fella. As I got closer to him, he started to look REALLY familiar. I cocked my head to the side, and then so did he, and as I finally got to where I could see him, I realized it was a good friend of mine who I grew up with.

I hadn't seen him since maybe a year after high school graduation, but this was someone I was always fond of. We had known each other since we were 10, I would estimate, and I had always wondered what had happened to him. Sometimes that happens, you know? You just lose touch with people you really liked and care about, and you always wonder what they're up to. That's probably why Facebook is so popular, it eliminates most of that sort of feeling.

"I know you!!!" I said with excitement as I walked by him. He repeated me "Hey, I know YOU!" and he reached his arm out, to what I presumed was to shake my hand, but instead pulled me in for a hug! I was hot, sweaty and probably didn't smell so great after 45 minutes on the elliptical, so that felt kind of awkward, but in such a nice way. I am such a gawky hugger sometimes, especially when I'm holding a gym bag, a purse, my jacket, and a water bottle! Oi! He didn't seem to mind though.
We chatted for awhile about what we had been up to, and what we were hoping to do with our futures. It really brightened my day and made me so happy to run into him, and to know that he's flourishing and doing well. We agreed that we would likely run into each other again since we visit the gym at the same time, and we went on our separate ways. I smiled all the way home. He's leaving in a month for school, so I do hope to run into my long lost friend at least once more before he heads off to study his calling. Totally random reconnections are the best.

=)

Day 289

I love roses. I know, I'm such a girl, but they really are my favorite flower! These are the pretty pretty roses my Dad got my mother for Valentine's day :)

Day 288

Happy Valentines day to all of my followers, lurkers, or random passer-byers.

I'm not a huge fan of this holiday. Not because I don't have anyone to share it with, but it just seems so cheesy and insincere. I like what it represents, but I believe you should show the person you love them all the time, not just on one particular day.

Plus, there are just way too many sweets and chocolates that aim to derail me from my eating plan!

My Daddy bought me a rose and some chocolates. Wasn't that sweet of him? He bought all of his little ladies a present today (My mother, my sister and I).

Hope you all enjoyed the day.

Day 287

Kitty do not want!!!

Not sure why he was eating bamboo...he's an odd cat.

Saturday, February 12, 2011

Day 286

I helped my sister make duck cupcakes. She always has to be elaborate with her cupcakes, but they sure are cute! I made some valentines day themed cupcakes, which you might be able to see in the background :)

Day 285

I stopped at a local bread shop and picked up some bread for the weekend. On the way home I drove by one of my favorite parks, and I felt like I should stop and feed some of the birdies.
They seemed pretty happy. There were a couple of seagulls that seemed to be bullying the ducks, but I tried to make sure all of them got a tastey snack!

Day 283

I'm starting to get bored with my photography. I still love taking photos, but I feel like so much of what I photograph is the same. A tree in the backyard. My dog. My cat. Something interesting on my way home from work. If I'm bored with it, you guys probably are, too.

I need some form of inspiration, or maybe an actual paying gig to get get my creative muse going again.

I think it's been a problem recently, simply because I have to be chained to the house while Boone is recovering. I can't take him out for walks, I can't go somewhere neat to photograph the amazing sunsets we've been having... I'm just stuck! I get up, I go to work, I come home, I take care of Boone. I love the little guy, but now that the weather is getting better, I feel like I have less of an excuse for taking uninspiring photographs.

Hang in there with me, friends, I think things will get more exciting soon :)

Day 282

Kari came over to hang out with Stephanie and me! Boone didn't like Kari taking up "his" couch. So he made room...
By sitting ON Kari.

Yes, that body underneath my silly boy, is Kari. hahaha.

Day 280

I'm still trying not to over-exert Boone, since he needs to continue heavy rest for at LEAST another week, but he couldn't resist playing with the hose this afternoon as I cleaned off our patio. This dog loves water so much. Maybe I'll take up duck hunting? Hahaha. Just kidding. Perhaps I'll look into Dock Jumping when he's healed?

Though, jumping into the water is a bit different than playing with the spray nozzle on the hose :)

PS. For those wondering about how Boone got into this mess, I've finally updated this post which details his surgery. I'm only a week late... haha.

Day 279

I got my Nikon back today!!!!In case y'all haven't been keeping track, Boone helped me drop my Nikon D80 on the floor, and the wings inside the lense basically became disaligned and my pictures looked horrid. They were coming out something like this:

Blurry, over-exposed and yellow-toned. I took it to the only camera repair shop I could find. They had it for a month, when they originally quoted 5-7 business days, so that was super annoying, but I have a working semi-professional camera again, which is very important.

Before I took it out of the shop I had to make sure it worked, of course!

And then when I got it home, I played a bit in the backyard. Woohooo. Can't wait to take it somewhere serious like the zoo or the beach!

Day 278

My friends are awesome. They let me bring my playful little puppy over to their house so I could hang with them and play games, but also keep an eye on Boone.

He made himself right at home in one of their comfortable armchairs.

One of the restrictions of Boone's recovery is that he has to be confined to a small room or even locked in a kennell when no one is watching him. He's not allowed to play with any of the other dogs in our home for at least 4 weeks, possibly up to 12 weeks. I'm still working on a blog post about the day he had his surgery, whcih I haven't completed yet. It'll be posted under Day 271 and I should have that done by the end of the weekend. But anyway, getting back on track, Jeff and Natalie were kind enough to let me bring my 70 pound monster to their home. He behaved himself pretty well!
Cookin' Pizza

I took this from their backyard. Muwahahaha. I am spying on youuuuu!

Day 277

It was another beautiful day here in Oregon. Shannon and I ran outside to snap some photos of the field near our office, because the sun was illuminating the barn and trees in the far background, and the field was shrouded by clouds. It was really quite gorgeous.
You can't really see the effects I described in the photo, but trust me, they were there and they were beautiful.

Day 276

It's cold outside!! At least we're not being hammered in a blizzard like the rest of the country is.

Tuesday, February 1, 2011

Day 275

I honestly couldn't believe it was time for self portrait day again. It's February 1st??

I wanted to get a shot with Boone, but he had to be sedated today as he's feeling MUCH better and is trying to run and jump and play, which is strictly prohibited until he heals. So, it's just me. Think I'm gonna go back to brown hair, soon.
