Day 151

Pretty dew on the grass in the field outside my office. I felt really weird taking this picture, haha.

A butterfly on the ground as we were walking back to the office this morning from the coffee shop.

The other new girl at work, Shannon, and myself had a meeting with two of the big bosses of our corporation at a coffee shop about 4 blocks from the office. I think it's really nice that the company I'm working for takes the time to sit you down with the people who are in charge of the really important, top level tier of our business to just get to know you, your history, tell you about themselves, and the company. I like the place I work for a LOT and I hope I get to stay, but this was just... such a cool thing for them to do.

Anyway, I ordered an ice milkshake thing, trying to behave, and I thought it wouldn't have coffee in it, but it did. I don't really drink coffee because I'm not a huge fan of the taste, and I honestly don't need the caffeine most of the time.... but I was bouncing off the walls for the next 3 hours after that frosty thing. Never again, hahaa.

Day 150

Tonight was our...4th? Book club meeting. We read The Princess Bride this month. I liked it, but I didn't end up finishing it because a majority of it was a play by play of the movie, which is arguably more of a classic film than the book is...so I just kinda lost interest. The parts that were different from the movie though, were great.

Sam pondering crepe batter.

She was so good to us and made CREPES!!!! They were delicious. I was really good and only had a salad and veggies for lunch so I knew I could splurge on dinner...

This was a peanut butter and nutella crepe. It was SO yummy. It made me quite happy all I had for lunch was a crapload of veggies, haha.

While we were discussing which book to read next month, we started talking about books we had already read in the club, and we brought up The Passage, which is what we read in August. Sam brought out her advanced reader copy of The Passage. It was printed on thinner paper and had a smaller binding, so it was like 25% smaller than the copy was all ended up with in stores. The advanced reader copy was SO much nicer to hold. I still have to say, when the sequel comes out, I freaking won't be reading that book at night. Nuh uh. No way.

Day 149

Kind of a busy day... spent all day at work, then a good two hours at the gym. By the time I got home, all I had time to do was take some arty nature shots....

Luckily the sun was hitting this tree in just the right way. Looks like the bark is illuminated!

Day 148

Another beautiful summer day, even though it's fall...
I pass this fountain every day on the way to work and on the way home. So pretty. I love looking at it as the sun rises in the morning.

We took Lois to the park as Boone's buddy. She behaves so well for my Dad, it's like she's a different dog when she's at the park.

This was a Shiloh shepard. The man we ran into and talked to for awhile had two of them. They were SO well behaved and mellow, I was super impressed. I've honestly never seen this breed of dog before, but they were beautiful. Apprently this one is a therapy dog for old folks. I should have asked that gentleman for training tips!

147

On my morning walk with Boone today, I came across this lovely little, thing....

A sock hanging out in a tree? Very odd.

Boone was helping me take pictures for my mother of her ebay lots. He's a good helper.

Later, my Dad helped me train Boone a bit at the park. Charli came along too. Little rat dog =P

Day 146

It was hot today!! We had a little bit of Indian Summer I guess!
Booney dog is my co-pilot. He kinda felt like my Chewbacca, riding around in the front seat all proper like.

When George Lucas was creating the concept of Star Wars, he came up with the idea for Chewbacca based on his malamute who would sit in the front seat of his car (a VW bug, I think) and at that position, he would be the same height as Lucas. So he thought it would be neat to make a dog/human character inspired after his dog. I've always liked that little behind the scenes trivia :)

Later I went to game night at Sam and Aarons! So much fun, and such good snacks! I tried a strongbow, which is a hard cider but isn't too sweet. It was actually REALLY good.
Basically a nutella cake which was made of deliciousness. Sam, you are an amazing baker!
These were a bit weird, they were Japanese... doobpeeedoobs? I forget the name.HAHAHA. They tasted like gumdrops, but without the sugar on the outside, and if gum drops tasted like sweet rice....

PANDEMIC! The game pieces are kept in petri dishes. So funny.

Day 145

Strange, and yet delightful organic cream soda we brought home to go with our dinner....

Stephanie brought home Buffalo Wild Wings  for the whole family (plus Kari).

We had a lot of leftovers...Also it's not as good when you bring it home. Much better at the actual restaurant. But it's always so loud in there :(

Day 144

I did a bit of Hula dancing at lunch!

No joke!

My work was having a little luncheon celebration and brought in Hawaiin food (which i did not eat, I was being good) and Hula dancers! They performed for awhile and then taught those of us volunteers some steps! I'm not shy so I went right up there.

I only took pictures of the boys dancing though. Their steps were more involved and interesting.

They were so cute! And such good sports! We all came out of that lunch smiling =)

Day 143

Went to the bookstore after work to get Sam a birthday present!!
I love hourglasses. I think they're cool. Not for a birthday present though, haha

The randomness of this photo makes me chuckle. Natalie was upset I was taking this picture, Sam was concerned about something, and Jeff was pondering the meaning of the universe. Or some other philosophical thing.

McMenamins! SO Delicious, but OMG bad service. Loved the live folk music!!

Day 142

My car was returned to me today. The body shop actually delivered it to my work, which was very nice of them. They also got the racing stripes in, so the car looks back to normal.
Really, a delivery to work was the least they could do. There could have been serious permanent damage to my engine because of their little screw up. I'm still worried that something is going to go wrong. But it's been driving fine so far, and I'm really happy to have it back.

At the gym after work,  I noticed an empty spot next to a racing green mini, so of course I had to park next to it. Mini togetherness always brings a smile to my face. =)

Day 141

This funny little award/statue was on my desk this morning!

I asked my trainer about it. She didn't say it was anything special and took it away after that. So weird, but I liked my little desk visitor.

Mandatory cute shot of Boone on our walk :) He is such a good boy!

140

The sky looked awesome today! Does this make you want to put on sunglasses? So bright!

Booney dog being distracted by something....

Day 139

I think fog gets a bad rap. It's always depicted as creepy or evil

But I rather like fog.

Next time you see a patch of fog, go play in it.

Day 138

On my way to work today, my car started talking to me. He lets me know when he's cold (it's icy outside) when he's thirsty (needs more washer fluid/gas/etc)...and today he let me know he had a fever....

Basically any time something goes wrong, the on board computer flashes pretty symbols at me that I'm not always clear on what they mean, and then makes angry booping sounds until I either can fix the problem or reset the computer.

Today wasn't a reset the computer kind of day.

Today was the day I found out how negligent the body shop was in my repairs.

On my morning commute, my Mini flashed a weird symbol at me. It looked like an upside down key that was on top of a couple of wavey lines. "Hrm, I wonder what that means?" I thought to myself. I finished driving to work, parked, then pulled out my manual.

Apparently, that's a thermometer. And my car was overheating. Honestly I didn't think toooooo much of it, because I thought that it was one of those things that happens to a car since it came back from the shop.

At lunch, I decided I would drive around a bit to see if it was just a one time fluke. Not only did the engine overheating light turn back on within 5 minutes, but immediately after that, I got a "check engine" light. I started to freak. I called my Mom and explained how mad I was, and she told me to just calm down and call the body shop, which I did.

I explained to the shop manager the warning lights that were on, and that also upon my return from lunch, I had turned off the car and it still sounded like it was still running. I didn't want to pop the hood because I was afraid it would be hot, but I did place my hand on it and THAT was pretty damn hot, which I also explained to him. The dude asked how far away from the shop I was and when I got off work, and he said I should bring it over when I finished work. I agreed, called my mother to tell her what was up, and then my mother called my Dad, who left work early to pick me up and follow me to the repair shop to make sure I made it there.

As soon as I got into the parking lot, my Dad told me that a part was dragging on the ground and he asked me to pop the hood.

It took my Dad all of about 30 seconds once the hood was popped, to see that the radiator hood hadn't been connected properly and that's the part that was dragging on the ground.

I was so angry I could have screamed. I was shaking I was so mad. Enraged. I was pretty mad when I had called at lunch, but this was it. I called the shop manager and got his voicemail. I had a raised voice but was trying to remain controlled, but I'm sure he could tell the absolute irritation and shock in my voice upon what my Dad had found. He called me back about 5 minutes later and said he was sending a tow truck and that they'd keep someone in the shop there late to figure out what went wrong, and to hopefully have it fixed by Monday. Once they figure out "what went wrong." Right. Why should I fucking trust you now, assholes?

To their credit, the manager himself drove out with the tow truck, with a loaner car on it, to pick my car up from my work parking lot. Which was also a challenge for them since, uh, I don't know the address to where I work, and it's not exactly clearly marked on the buildings. Yes, it was classy of them. And yes, the body of my car looks beautiful. But this minor part could have caused some MAJOR damage and ruined my engine, and it appears to have happened due to negligence.

I'm a girl, I'm not a mechanic, I didn't even think to look under the car to see if anything weird was going on there. Not to even mention the fact that the shop manager had told me to drive the car even though it was seriously overheating. I didn't think about how fucking STUPID that was until I got home and was talking the day out with my parents.

I just don't know. Getting my car back was supposed to be the symbol of everything going back on the upswing. But this is just a continuation of the bad things that keep going wrong in my life.

But hey, at least I'm not sad. I'm just fucking angry.

Day 137

So this is apparently a private park, even though it's not gated. But I always see teams playing soccer here, after work and during lunch.

The sky was awesome today.

Day 136

It felt so strange driving my car home from the body shop today. I was nervous, since obviously the last time I drove it, I crashed it.

But it was different. It felt like the first day I picked it up 2 years ago. I had forgotten how much a Mini really does handle like a go-cart, after a month of driving my parents cars and that shit rental.

I think the rattling in the drivers side door is gone, which is kinda cool, that was something the car had always done since the day I picked it up from the dealership.

But now the real test begins. I want to drive it to the beach or something, for some distance, to make sure everything is OK with it.

I don't know if I can trust the body shop, after they ordered the wrong bumper AND the wrong stripes. They at least gave me the car back while they wait for the stripes to come in.

Until then, the car looks naked :(

Day 135

My delicious and healthy dinner! Boring, but it gets the job done, haha.

Monday, September 13, 2010

Day 134

I had the nastiest headache when I got off work today. I took some tylenol, but it didn't kick in for at least an hour, and by then I felt like I had missed my workout window. When I started feeling mildly better, I got Boone his leash and we went for a short walk/jog.

He's much better at jogging than he is at walking. He runs right beside me, but if we're just at a leisurely stroll, he feels the need to zig zag in front of me. Though, he never pulls on the leash no matter what we're doing. How did I end up with an almost perfect dog that picks up new commands in only a few tries? Seriously, he's amazing.

Even he and the kitty are bff's =)

I still wasn't feeling super great even after our jog and dinner, so I worked a bit on a new cross stitch I started yesterday. It's Christmas themed, so I hope I can finish it before December. It's kinda big, so I don't know if that's really plausible.
Here's a section I've made pretty good progress in. Can you guess what it is? Hahah.

Day 133

I'm sorry I got so behind on my posts this week. I try to get everything updated before I go to bed on the day of, but it's been so busy that I just haven't had the energy to do that.

Today was finally just an easygoing and relaxing day off. I probably should have done more with my time, like gone to the gym, but today was nice after being on the go all week.

Made cinnamon rolls for breakfast! Before:

After:
Yum :)

Played a good deal with Boone outside since it was probably one of the last warmer days we'll see until spring. This dog is so smart, he knows how to turn the hose on and off with his mouth. And he's only 13 weeks! He was a bit shocked when the force of the hose increased :)

Bzzzz! Bees!

Day 132

Game night at the Walker house! So much fun!!!! Thank you for having us over Jeff and Natalie!!

Natalie made "super soft snickerdoodles" and Kyle and Sam were weirded out by them. I did not sample them, so I could not speak for their supposed weird texture.

We started the night with a very interesting and fun game called Pandemic. It's a strategy game where everyone works together instead of against one another. I really liked it!

The board all set up, before we started playing.

She pulled two epidemic cards in a row!! That was bad. We eventually lost, and disease took over the world and everyone became virals....
This game was a bit more simple but also pretty fun. We lost this game, too.

Now this game, took a long time to explain and get going because I had never played before and I couldn't quite wrap my head around what to do. So I didn't really get it until we were all getting tired and crabby and just wanting to end the game. I've decided Settlers of Catan is worse than Monopoly in terms of friends turning against one another.

And you thought owning people with hotels on Marvin Gardens and Park Avenue was cutthroat. You cannot haz my sheep and grain! Build your own settlement!!
