Day 212

Blargh. Got a package today that I had a few items in that I had requested be gift wrapped. It was a shoddy job to begin with, but it was ripped!!! Thankfully a IM to customer service resulted in a refund. So that was nice of them :) Still gonna have to re-wrap these though, which I'm terrible at.

Day 211

Someone parked their car in a very odd place.

I hope they didn't get a ticket...

Day 210

I set up my Christmas Village!

I've been collecting Department 56 stuff since 2008. I allow myself to buy one house for my village, and maybe one or two accessories every year. That way I don't break my budget, and I can pick pieces I really truly want and will appreciate. I started with "The Polar Palace" which is the one that looks like an ice castle in the middle. Last year I splurged and I bought two new houses... because at the time, I could afford it. Plus I bought one on ebay, so that's sort of cheating. Two of my houses need new bulbs though :(

One of the accessories I bought this year, didn't go with my village. I bought Ralphie Parker "I got my decoder ring!" figure from the Christmas Story Village. Hey, he may not match the rest of my North Pole Village, but I'm collecting this stuff for me! I can make it whimsical and silly if I want.

This was the house I bought yesterday at Sleighbells. I love how these things look all lit up.

I also put some twinkle lights on the fake tree in my office. I'll probably get the rest of the decorations out next weekend :)

Day 209

My friend Lindsay and I drove out to the year-round Christmas store this morning to look around and pick up some decorations.
A Sleeping Beauty nutcracker. Umm. Not only is this not a Christmas item, but her breasts were the part where you put the nut in to crack it. What. The. Frak.

The wall of garlands.

Irish Santa!!!

They had a reindeer swing made out of tires near the entrance to the store, so we both had to sit on it. I think I enjoyed it a bit more than Lindsay ;)

We had a lot of fun though. Lindsay is a huge Christmas fan, like myself, so it was great to enjoy the awesome ornaments and decorations this place had on display. I ended up buying my 1 Department 56 house that I allow myself every year, though their selection was no where near as good as The Mole Hole. I miss that store.

Day 208

Yoda cookie!

Hahahah okay I actually didn't create this or even take the true photo, it's a photo of a photo =P

However my friend Jeff said the best quote ever, and I want to remember it here " Maybe there's aliens, maybe there's not... Roswell... whatever, whatever."

We were talking about cylons and space travel and stuff. Not a bad conversation for a Friday night, hahah.

Here's a photo that I truly did take. Boone chasing me, as Anakin looks on in confusion.

Day 206

Oh the eve before Thanksgiving! That's pie/sidedish prep day, for me!

One of these things is not like the other... one of these things just doesn't belong. What's wrong with this pie? :)

Mmm, marionberries and sugar!

Day 204

Well, it started snowing.

I'm sure this looks like a joke to some of you in other parts of the world. But here in Oregon, 1/4 inch of snow is a big deal and the entire town shuts down! Hahaha.

Day 203

The weather keeps teasing us with the threat of snow.

Personally, I believe that here in Oregon, the meterologists can never accurately predict when it will snow. It did get really damn chilly last night, though! 27 degrees when I woke up this morning!

Boone's pawprint in the frost.

I should probably thank my sweet Boone for waking me up at 8am on my day off. I did end up with some very pretty shots.

Poor little blackberry bushes!

Day 202

Booney running to the car. He's such a good boy.
I thought this was a fun shot to show how big he is compared to the car. I might eventually need to trade the Mini in for some sort of hybrid, cute SUV. I love that Mini though. We'll see how things play out. Right now Boone is comfy either in the passenger seat as my co-pilot, or laying in the back seat if I have a human companion.

The park I visit a few times a month with Boone had a good portion of the trail flooded out. I couldn't believe it! This bridge normally has a good 5 feet at LEAST from the bridge to the water. It hasn't even rained that much!!

Other parts of the trail were totally fine and didn't look like the water level had risen at all. It was really very weird.

Day 201

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, part 1!!

Natalie, Jeff, and I went to the 7:15 showing tonight. I really wanted to go to a midnight showing, but since I work so early in the morning, that just wasn't feasible. Part 2 though... I'll use some vacation time, and Natalie, we're going!!

We showed up an hour early... and were the first people in line. Whoops! It actually wasn't even crowded, which was surprising. I liked the movie a lot. I'm not sure where it ranks in terms of my favorite of the Potter films, but I thought the cinematography was beautiful, and they did a fairly decent job of pacing the film, given that the first half of the 7th book is pretty much Harry, Ron and Hermione whining about camping in the woods.

There were a few artistic liberties taken I didn't really appreciate. They removed the one scene with Harry and Dudley which actually redeems Dudley being such an ass, they left out the scene with Harry and pals cleaning up Grimmauld Place, and kinda just brushed over Bill and Fleur's wedding. ALSO, the actor they picked for Bill was not the handsome dreamboat I was expecting. In the book they describe Bill as being muscular with long hair, and being very "cool." The actor they selected was a tall gangly thing. Blah.

But overall, I liked the movie. I'm going to try and make it to the theater again to see it and then give my final judgement on it, but I really can't wait for July and part 2!!  So far away! I guess I'll just have to re-read the series before then :)
Yes, yes, playing around with the hipstamatic filter on my iPhone. Such a bad photographer I am! Real photographers don't use digital filters! Hahaha.

Day 200

Happy anniversary to meeee! Hahaha.

It's day 200 of this 365 project. It's gone by so fast! And yet it really wasn't that long ago that I started this :)

ahhh, 7:30am and the sunrise. Nice view, huh? This is the gorgeous field the windows in my office face.

Playing around with my iPhone. A sad little tootsie-pop in the parking lot at work.

I pulled over near the airport to snap this photo. It was pouring down rain, which you can see if you look closely at this photo. I love the sun break through the clouds though. It's times like these I wish I kept my Nikon on me all the time.

The weather decided to be awesome and personally deliver a DOUBLE RAINBOW just in honor of my 200th day of updating this blog.

Double rainbow... what does this mean?!!!?! ;)

Day 199

Book club night! Pam hosted this month and made us delicious turkey chili and cornbread!

We read Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, which was cute. It was surprisingly hard to read, at times. I felt like I had to read certain sections more than once to understand what was going on, and after awhile, I just gave up and read right through, so I know there are tons of jokes and references that I didn't get because of that, which makes me sad. Still love the movie though, even though it deviates from the book, like... a lot.

Day 198

So, my Motorola Devour committed suicide today.

I've hated that phone since probably 3 days after I got it, back in April (when it was brand new). Reviews of the phone rate it at 2/5 stars and there are hundreds of reports of this phone having many problems, and being a buggy piece of crap. All of the textbook things were wrong with this phone... it would freeze, it would restart on its own, it would call people when the screen was locked, the buttons wouldn't work half the time, the battery drained to 5% after only a few hours with no apps running and no talk time used, and a whole list of other things.

So, I kinda just decided to suck it up and endure the bad phone for the next 2 years because I really couldn't afford a new one, and I figured that since it was a new phone, if I updated it regularly, eventually the problems would fix itself. They never did. I endured the bad phone for months, knowing that when it eventually died, or I accidental dropped it in the toilet or something, I knew my insurance would either get me a replacement of the same phone (you can see why that option wouldn't work for me, given how buggy the reports are), or they would get me a new phone if that phone had been discontinued.

Long story short, Verizon essentially told me to stick it where the sun don't shine, and screwed me out of a working phone. The only options they gave me were to either pay full price for a new phone ($500), buy a refurbished used phone, or get the same phone again because they had a stockpile in the back-room for when this particular phone goes belly up, even though this phone is not manufactured anymore (hrrrrm, think there's a reason for that?). That was NOT what I was told when I purchased the insurance ($7 extra on my plan every month) and is not what my contract states. I read it. I kept it. Yes, I'm the only person on the planet that does that.

Anyway, to sum up, they just made me very, very angry and I ended up paying the cancellation fee to get out of my contract, and drove immediately over to AT&T where I was welcomed with open arms.

I'm not going to go into details of the conversation and how things went down, because I'm tired of writing angry things on this blog, and I fully intend on writing a strongly worded letter to Verizon Wireless corporate to try and get out of my last month's bill and my cancellation fee. Will it work? Probably not, my expectations are low, but I do plan on trying.

I will say though, that I was very polite considering what I was being subjected to, refrained from swearing, did not raise my voice, and basically had tears in my eyes while I was asking for another, better option, one my contract entitled me to.

Some good did come out of canceling. I finally got an iPhone, which I know is a trusted phone, and I'm saving $30 a month for my new plan, while I'm getting more features on it, so, there's that.

At least I have that.

Day 197

Umm, someone put soap in the fountain outside of our office.

Day 196

It was moving day for my friends Natalie and Jeff. They bought their first house! So a bunch of us headed over to help move their furniture and big ticket items.

Sam getting ready to throw the couch cusions over the balcony to her husband Aaron below.

Aaron's all ready to catch the cushions!

Sam didn't actually throw them, was just a joke! ;)

It's soooo cute!

Also cute, is the kitten that lives across the street from their new house.

He kept coming over to us, and getting under Jeff's parents truck, or worse, the U-Haul. So after he tried that a couple of times, I just held him until the U-Haul left for another load from the old apartment. The kitty sure was sweet and loved being cuddled! He was really fidgety though!

Ah yes. An Oregon Beavers key now belongs to a household with a Duck graduate. Hilarious :)
