Day 243

New Years Eve party at Jeff and Natalie's!

Since my camera lense is busted on the Nikon, you'll have to pardon the weird colors and effects you're about to see on today's photographs.

The camera apparently works just fine with the flash on. So weird.

Day 242

Sam and Aaron hosted a really fun murder mystery party! It was set in 8th century China, so everyone dressed in costumes!

I knew that I probably wasn't going to be able to find an already made kimono that would fit me, and I didn't really have time to make one, so I wore a flora summer dress and a sweater.

When I got home, Boone was so happy to see me he was jumping around, and his paw got stuck on my neck strap of my camera in my purse... and it went crashing to the ground. The body of the camera appears to be fine. Thankfully, but the lense attached to it seems to be buggered up slightly, the aperature inside can be seen and the picture's being taken with it are really odd. It's making for some interestingly colored shots, which you'll see in tomorrow's post. This was my $400 Nikon lense, by the way.

Camera repair shop, here I come.

Day 241

Apparently we love Oregon. And Chickens.

My Daddy made that little coffee mug holder!

Day 240

"No matter how bad things get, remember, they can always get worse"

I love the above quote. It's always been really amusing to me. It's from one of my favorite movies, "Ever After." I reference this quote today, because I am past being angry, past being sad, and done moping about the run of luck I've had over the last 12 months because there's nothing else to do about it, but laugh. I lost my job and racked up credit card debt because of it, I discovered my (now ex) best friend of 3 years had been lying to me and taking advantage of me in the worst way possible, and then I crashed my Mini! What else are you going to throw at me, life? Bring it on. At this point, I don't really care anymore and it won't phase me. Fall down seven times, stand up eight.

What's my point in talking about this today, my dear followers? Today I got the bad news today from my Veterinarian that Boone does in fact have osteochondritis (a piece of cartilage broke off a joint and is now rubbing against the bone). However it's even worse than either of us suspected, he has it in BOTH of his front legs. So what else is there to do? I'm not saying I didn't cry slightly when I got the news, but life is too short to be so serious all the time. My dog will need orthopedic surgery that will likely cost thousands. Que sera, sera.

I love my vet, I've been seeing her for the last 15 years, and I trust her. She hugged me and wouldn't let me go when she had to put my 13 year old golden retriever, Angel down and I stood in front of her sobbing. She had been seeing Angel since she was a puppy and was there for arthritis, chronic pain, and eventually the cancer that took her away from me for good.  Boone is my replacement dog for Angel and he has exceeded every expectation I had for him. Angel was an amazing dog, a sweetheart, protective, and super smart, and Boone is all of these things and more. So when I got the news this morning, my heart sunk and I reluctantly told her that I wasn't sure I could pay for an orthopedic surgery that might cost thousands of dollars, and I asked her what the complications would be if I just let him live with a limp for awhile? She told me in a real no-nonsense way that I would be condemning Boone to a lifetime of arthritic pain within the next year, guaranteed. And again, I trust her, not only because I've known her so long and she's a no-nonsense kinda lady, but I can't go to her to have Boone's condition fixed, as she doesn't focus in orthopedics. She won't be making a dime off of this.

So he's going to need surgery. Very expensive orthopedic surgery, that I'm going to do, even though I'm already in debt. Why? Because I love this dog, he's my best friend and essentially my child, and I'd do anything to make sure he has a happy, healthy time on this earth.

My mother keeps telling me "it's just money, it's just money, don't worry about it." Which is hard when you have bills up to your eyeballs. But she's right. It's just money. Charge it. I'll have to work it off. It's not like I'm buying something frivolous, I'm paying so my dog, my best friend, can live a normal life... and WALK.

Whatever will be, will be.

Day 239

So sad! The cold weather is affecting my produce purchases!! There were all kinds of signs like this at the grocery store today.

My one complaint would be... where is my snow?!

Day 238

Oh boy was I lazy today.
I didn't even bother to get dressed, which is something I haven't done since I was like, 5, probably. I've never spent all day in my pajamas. I'll tell you what, I needed it.

I fell asleep with Anakin (my cat) on my lap, and Boone resting on my feet while watching Doctor Who Series 5. I've NEVER fallen asleep in the middle of the day while watching TV. I'm usually too twitted out and focused on what I'm watching to let that happen, but it did! And it was good :)

I also re-watched the last episode of Lost. I think soon I'll need to re-watch that series from the beginning.

Might not be a hell of a lot worth blogging about today, but I just wanted to share my tale of wonderful relaxation, since I think we all need to take time to just chill out and have a day of not doing anything.

What are some of your favorite tv shows, folks?

Day 237

Merry Christmas to all of my followers! Whether you are a public follower, float here randomly from my facebook page, or are a silent lurker, I appreciate you visiting my blog. I love sharing my photos with people and every time someone leaves a comment, even if it's just saying Hi, you have no idea how much that brightens my day and how much I appreciate you :)

Boone's first Christmas. He was very excited!

Beautiful birds. This was taken first thing in the morning :)

Delicious french toast made from Challa bread!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas!

Day 236

Today was pretty rough. Which is hard to say, because it's Christmas and I have a lot to be thankful for and I hate being negative, but it did. I had a really, really tough day.

I had an appointment at the vet today to get Boone's stitches removed, and to check out a limp he's got on his front right paw. He's been limping since the 13th, a few days after his surgery. He's running just fine, but he won't put any pressure on that leg at all. So the doc had a look at him, felt every bone in his leg, and when she got to his elbow/shoulder blade, we could tell that's where the pain was. She said it could be one of possibilities: 1: a spain, but very unlikely to be so since he's been limping for 2 weeks. 2: panosteitis, which is litterally "growing pains" (he gained 7 pounds in two weeks) and basically his bone has a hole in it because he grew too fast, or 3: Osteochondritis, which is when a piece of cartilage breaks off in a joint and starts rubbing against a bone. If it ends up being osteochondritis, that means Boone will have to undergo a very expensive orthopedic surgery, one that I can't really afford right now. I let Dr. Leddy take Boone away to the back room to get X-Rays done, and I went out to my car and cried.

She kept him for a few hours and X-Rayed him. She said she couldn't see anything in the X-Rays that was obviously pointing to osteochondritis, but she would have to send it out to be 100% sure. I'll find out on Tuesday the "official" diagnosis. At this point, I'm hoping for anything other than osteochondritis.

I just want him to be a healthy and normal dog. I have him on a special large breed puppy food to prevent this sort of thing from happening, and he's had no trauma, so I don't understand. He's a happy, normal, healthy puppy otherwise from his limp, and even then, the limp isn't slowing him down that much.

But, yeah, today was pretty stressful. Merry Christmas to me.

It got heaps better after dinner. The food was delicious, and I got a (somewhat) surprise visit from one of my best friends, Kyle.
One of the best turkey's I've ever had! VERY flavorful and moist! I guess a full stick of butter really helped...

The spread

Cookie making with Kyle!

I umm, precariously placed a full, brand new bag of Boone's food on one of our kitchen chairs. It then got windy, or something, in the kitchen, and it fell over. Kyle was a dear and helped me clean it up.

This was Kyle's sad reindeer. It was apparently in a hit and run :P BLOODY REINDEER.

Preparing the turkey for brining!

This rolled out bit of dough kinda looks like Australia. Doesn't it?

Ugly Sweater Night

It was awesome. That's all you need to know ;)

Day 231

Today was busy busy busy! I baked 3 dozen sugar cookies, frosted them with my friend Jordan, AND i cooked a 12 pound turkey (and all the fixings) that my Uncle Glenn raised and slaughtered on his farm!

This is my "Van Gogh" polar bear. He's kinda my favorite.

Day 230

Happy Birthday to one of my dear friends, Natalie!

She had a little Christmas/Birthday party to celebrate :)

Two of my favorite people in the whole world! :)

Happy Birthday, Natalie!

Day 228

Oh my gosh, my Ocarina came!!!

It's so small it fits in one of my hands, and my hands are tiny!

I'm so excited to start learning songs!

The triforce!

It sounds beautiful. Obviously higher quality than the iPhone app, because, you know, it's not electronic, is made of ceramic, and is a real instrument instead of a phone app.

Seriously, one of the best purchases I've made in a long time! I bought it as a Christmas present for myself, because it was something I found on a whim and never realized they were real. Once I knew they were an actual thing and read up on their history, I knew I had to have one.

Do you guys buy yourselves Christmas presents? Have you ever heard of an Ocarina before, or understand why I'm excited about this? :)

Day 227

Book club night!
We decided to read a Christmas themed book, and we decided on "Let it Snow" which was three short stories written by a couple of enjoyable authors. The book was really easy to read and sorta fluffy, but mostly harmless.

Faith brought her new baby. Delilah is SUCH a cutie!

Natalie made tasty lasagna!!

Pam explaining some cultural differences between Americans and Asians, like the fact in Hong Kong, grown women who are friends will just hold hands while walking down the street, which is so different to what you see in America. It's really kind of sweet, actually.

Day 226

Reindeer sausage, anyone?

This, and some other "wilderness treats" were sent to our office from one of our clients It included several packages of sausage with reindeer meat added (though if you read the label, it's one of the last meat products, so it's mostly pork and beef) some Alaskan yogurt, and some Alaskan Mustard which they called...

Day 225

At first I thought this said "You are Wearing your Pee" but it says "You are wearing Your PPE" Whatever that means.

On Thursday our office is having a white elephant gift exchange. The limit is $10, so I picked up a couple of options...

This is something I would like to get myself! A gnome to travel with you? Yes please.

I think this is probably what I'll end up giving. It's a daily calendar.

But I also bought these cute little pieces of stationary!

What do you guys think? The gnome in a box? The calendar? Or the pretty pretty shopping list and sticky notes?
